Every poultry farmer strives for healthy animals. Only with healthy animals job satisfaction can be obtained, and good technical and financial results be achieved. Each year more than 60 billion chickens are produced worldwide. This results in the production of more than 1.1 trillion eggs and 90 million tons of meat, representing approximately one third of all meat produced globally.
One of the major challenges in the worldwide poultry industry is to control the intestinal disease coccidiosis. Coccidiosis has a huge economical impact in the poultry industry. In 2016 the global total cost has been estimated at £10.4 billion (against 2016 prizes), equivalent to £0.16/chicken produced, due to prophylaxis, treatment and loss of performance.
