A germ-free living environment
Maintaining the health of animals can only be achieved in a living environment with a low infection pressure. The first cycles in a recently built stable often proceed smoothly, with exceptionally high levels of animal health and technical results. And that’s no coincidence, as the broilers enter into an environment with hardly any pathogens. By ensuring that broilers continue to live in a low-pathogen environment time and time again, the initial high levels of animal health and technical results can be continuously achieved.
How to create a germ-free living environment?
Once the broilers have been delivered, an empty and dirty stable is what remains. This dirt is a source of pathogens, which is why all contact materials and surfaces must be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected. One prerequisite for doing so properly, is that all pores and seams in these surfaces are sealed. Once this is facilitated, cleaning and disinfecting the stable becomes easy, resulting in a low-pathogen environment. Both separate procedures must be performed consecutively.
The first stage is cleaning. As not all components of the dirt layer – such as fats – are soluble in water, specific cleaning agents are required to ensure that all dirt can be removed from the stable. By adopting the right work method, tools and soaking and cleaning agents, everything inside the pig shed can be cleaned quickly and easily. This convenience is essential to contribute to the discipline required to consistently carry out this process after each cycle.
After completing the cleaning stage, the remaining pathogens can be killed effectively during the disinfection stage. The pathogens can no longer feed on organic materials, as these are already removed. This two-step approach maximises the impact of the disinfection stage.
A germ-free living environment in relation to the other HyCare pillars
Consistently creating a germ-free living environment for animals with the cleaning and disinfecting process is the only way to secure the highest level of biosecurity. However, pore-free surfaces as a stand-alone measure does not suffice to accomplish this. Properly cleaning and disinfecting also contributes to eliminate pests from your stables, as they can no longer extract nutrients from remaining dirt inside stables and individual units.
