The first pig breeding company in the Netherlands to take the bold step of adopting HyCare is Next Genetix. “We continue to search for improvements that help us distinguish with health and hygiene”, says Commercial Director Marcel Giesen. The first breeding farm of SPF Danic will soon start with this hygiene update of his company.

A first for HyCare

The first time HyCare enters the top of the pig pyramid became official this November. The responsible HyCare specialist at MS Schippers, Arjan Wermink, explains: “The number of sow, piglet and fattener farms using HyCare is steadily growing in many different countries. While these companies obtain excellent results, a leading multiplier is the type of organisation that should be ahead of the curve. This is why I am so happy that Next Genetix is the first pig-breeding company to embrace HyCare. It will give a great boost to their production chain of healthy gilts.

Next level

The Commercial Director of Next Genetix, Marcel Giesen, explains the pride he takes in taking a next step to further increasing their health status. “Even though we already have an SPF status, we believe in the additional value that HyCare will add. To us, it means we want to stand out with both genetics and health in our markets for gilts. It helps us to grow towards a next level.
The breeders at Next Genetics will invest in HyCare with their own funds. “This will be offset by efficiency increases, preventing a price increase of our DANIC gilts”, Giesen emphasises. “With best in class hygiene, our capacity to contain pathogens will increase even more. The results of this additional effort will also trickle down to our customers who buy our breeding gilts.”

Logical next step after SPF

The breeding farm owned by pig farmer Frank van de Pavert, who breeds the SPF DANIC gilts for Next Genetix, will be converted into a fully HyCare managed facility in 2020. He is convinced about the value added by this hygiene concept and the value for his company. “I see it as a logical next step after obtaining SPF status in 2011. Our foundation is already solid and HyCare will integrate additional fine-tuning of our internal company hygiene. This gives us even more assurances that we deliver exceptionally healthy animals. Furthermore, our team already has the discipline of strictly adhering to protocols. This broad support is a necessity for enabling everyone to achieve the best results each and every day.”
