Consequently, it is of crucial importance that pathogens cannot spread from one animal to the next one. Significant threats for transferring pathogens are personal handling contacts, cleaning tools and other equipment used in the farm. By implementing a colour code system, all PPE, cleaning products and other equipment can be separates for each group of animals or department, as each uses its own colour. This also includes boots, overalls, spades, brooms and sorting panels.
Tip: Start your day by caring for the youngest and most sensitive animals, which have the lowest infection pressure. This decreases the amount of pathogens you might introduce in another group.
The colour coding system is a great way to optimise biosecurity within every livestock farm. To properly implement this system, you need the right products in various colours. Then, all staff members and visitors must comply with the colour coding system. By placing these signs at properly visible places, you clearly indicate each colour zone. This makes it easy for everyone to adhere to your new policy!
